Bloggity blog blog Day 3: everything in its place

Today I was putting away some tickets and other souvenirs from recent shows, and as always, opening my box of weezer mementos made me smile. I keep most everything in there so I don't misplace things. I'd like to get a shadow box someday and display some of my collection, but for now the box is great.

Where do you keep your memorabilia? Ticket stub diary? Shoebox? Dresser drawer? I am not a scrapbooky gal, but that would be a fun way to keep pics, tickets, and other things together. I'd love to see other fans' collections and display methods. I've seen some cool pics of posters and wall art arrangements here on the site. Have you posted yours?

It was relevant! I made some notes on the backs of some of my things yesterday as I put them away, just in case anyone other than me ever wants to know what they are or how they came to be there.

I like the idea of sharing some of the things you can part with - that must have been a good feeling to share the confetti. :) I've given away Metallica things to people who were more into them than I am now. I'll likely never part with a few things from The Clash that were passed on to me - laminates and side-stage photos from a NY show that a friend worked - they're doubly-special because they're from an amazing band via a special friend.

One of my favorite weezer fan stories is of a person who happened to get one of Rivers' picks after a show. She turned to the guy next to her, who had been completely rocking out during the entire set, and said he should have it. That was really awesome of her - she was also a huge fan, but she felt it would mean a lot to the guy.

Right before you guys stayed over for the shows, I moved my music memorabilia from a big amp box to a rolly box under the bed to make some room. The box works well for me because I like not seeing things for awhile and then coming across them again. I keep a few mementos out on display at a time in a photo holder or by my record player. From time to time I check my parents' attic, hoping my Weezines will turn up, but so far no luck.

I worry about accumulating so much stuff as I saw recently it's not good to have too many things when you die - people have to sort through it all and figure out what to do with it…Last year I gave away some Flaming Lips confetti with a gift and labelled it from the show it came from, and it felt good to share something special like that. I wish I could give away more, but the growing pile has meaning, and when would be the time to start parting with things? Besides, we all keep some things that are of value only to ourselves. I'm picturing people going through my stuff, and thinking how they'd never know the S. Pellegrino bottle in my fridge had any kind of meaning.
