2011/01/07 Chicago: Aragon Ballroom: Memories Tour - Blue Album

We hope everyone has had a terrific holiday season and a happy new year so far. Team Weezer has reassembled for the Chicago shows, and today is the first one here at the Aragon. Chicago is bitterly cold right now, not even cracking 15 degrees, and  so far its not much warmer inside the Aragon! But thats what happens when you tour in January. The rock will warm us.

Lots going on at these shows - tonight, on top of the bands wicked "hits" and "blue" sets, The Limousines opening the show, my mid show slideshow, the general mayhem, the State Farm lobby photo booths and the merchandise tables, we also had a bunch of talented kids come down from the Chicago School Of Rock to do a mid-show mini set of covers, songs not done by weezer tonight: "Don't Let Go" and "El Scorcho". And they did a really great job, the crowd sang along just as much as they did to the weez. Theyll be back tomorrow too. Plus we had Scott from Magic Hugs (AKA "Chazz" from How To Be Tight) on hand to film a bunch of behind the scenes interviews and other madness for some upcoming TBA stuff. Plus we had legendary photog Paul Natkin in the house capturing things the Paul Natkin way.

Thanks to Cary LaScala, the drummer for The Limousines - he gave Rivers the cool shirt that he wore at New York's night 2 (from his store in SF, .Cary.Lane.), and he and the Limousines have been a lot of fun to mini-tour with.

Are you going? Did you go? Comment here and/or in our message boards, tell your tale! Post your show pix on our photo page!

Thank you Weezer and Karl for the history. It was truly a wonderful night, after driving 3 hours to show up and a awesome show. stood in the cold and snow, but it was well worth it, like the rain in Peoria. Thank you.

I want to say thank you to Karl and the entire Weezer group for putting on such an amazing, unforgettable show.  I've been to seven Weezer concerts in my life time and they have been, ultimately, my favorite band since grade school.  Compared to the other shows, and other bands I've seen live (and there have been many), this show, by far, has been the greatest venue experience I'll ever have.  The energy level from the very first opening song to the epic ending of my favorite song, "Only In Dreams," was simply breathtaking and emotional.  It was great seeing the band so loose and simply having fun.

Waiting in the frigid Chicago weather for 2 hours was well worth it, and the School of Rock group was incredibly fun!  I've never felt this sort of atmosphere in a show before, so again, Weezer and Karl, thank you so much for providing the world with your music and your shows.

Have a great time tonight at the Pinkerton show! It will be just as explosive!

Awesome show!!!! Rivers on the balcony - classic!  Loved the set list and the way they did it.  They were really on.  Best show I've seen.  Too bad I can't go to Pinkerton tomorrow.  Only bad thing is the Aragon gets really hot inside.  It was 15 deg outside and 115 inside.

I went to the Roseland Ballroom shows in NYC. The first time i saw Weezer was during the Hootenanny Tour in Philly; I was the 5th row from the back. This time, I had VIP tickets for both nights; it was an amazing birthday gift. It was incredible to see the guys play my favorite albums and all of my favorite songs live.

During the second night, I met Rivers before the show and he played "Jamie" right there in front of us. He asked me where I was sitting that night because he wanted to see someone's face singing along so he wouldn't forget the lyrics. I said "Rivers, my name is Hannah if you need me." He said, "I need you, Hannah." I will never forget that.

During Weezer's first set, Rivers recognized me a few times and reached out for my hand. When "Jamie" rolled around, he sang it flawlessly. The entire concert was phenomenal. I got some awesome pictures, and I can't be grateful enough for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

At the end of the show, a security guard (they were great, by the way; really nice guys who did a wonderful job protecting the front row from crowd surfers) handed me a grey pick. Jim Dunlop .88 mm grey pick. Both Rivers and Brian were using grey picks that night, and I'm happy either way. Does anybody know for sure?

Karl and the guys were all so friendly when I met them before the show. This tour was brilliant, and I can't thank the Weezer camp enough for this unbelievable experience.
