2011/10/09 Chicago: Congress Theater: RIOTfest

Today is a hard day for weezer and all weezer friends, fans, and family. While everyone is still in shock over  yesterday's tragic loss of Mikey Welsh, we know damn well he would never have wanted to stop the rock at today's RIOTfest, the show he was planning on attending. On the contrary, the rock was what he loved, both in music and art. To play the show and play it well tonight is to honor him and his memory. We have a feeling he will be watching.

Tonight weezer plays as part of the multi-day Chicago RIOTfest, with Chicago legends Urge Overkill who have reunited after a long hiatus, and who were also a big favorite of Mikey's. Also rocking tonight at the Congress Theater are Teenage Bottlerocket and White Mystery. As voted on by the fans, Weezer will include a complete performance of the Blue Album in their set tonight.

Photos asap - are you going? Did you go? Comment here and/or in our message boards, tell your tale! Post your show pix on our photo page! Same goes for video clips if you got em!

I took my 11 yr old  to the show and we were able to make it up to the front..Gotta give him credit, he hung in there for most of the entire first set until it just became crazy...Security was great..they carried him over and let him watch the rest of the show on the stairs leading up to the stage. It was pretty intense during the entire blue album...It was pretty awesome to look around to see everybody singing along....Great show...Karl was nice enough to give my son a set list after the show...Thanks Karl! looking forward to the pictures!

Thanks for the pics and video! When Rivers introduced the song he said something like some of us may know it and it may bring a tear to our eye (not exact quote, but something like that) then at the end he made that comment. I don't know if he was being serious about it. I do know I LOVED hearing it live, and I'm glad they did it "in a man's key" so I could sing along! (not a man, but not a soprano, just to be clear)

Thanks, Claudia! The show was awesome!

This kid that was there said he said that during the show. I disagreed. I didn't hear it at the time. And I never saw any crying.  After I got home and watched the video, I guess that's what he was talking about?  I don't know what he said, to be honest.

I really don't hear "I knew I was gonna cry." He clearly wasn't crying for that song and the only word I kinda hear from what you said is "cry" and even that I am not sure of.

Here's my video of Weezer performing I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams at Riotfest.  Sorry I couldn't keep it steady -- the pit was wild and I was getting kicked in the head a lot.  I love how Pat Wilson saved the day after they started on the wrong key...  At the very end, you can hear Rivers say "I knew I was gonna cry." :(
