How come Rivers barely ever play's guitar and why does he play guitar on the songs that he does live (Say It Ain't So, Hash Pipe, Island In The Sun, Perfect Situation and a few others) and does anyone know why Pat still play's guitar when Rivers play's guitar?.

Rivers is now playing guitar on nearly every song in their live show. Check out videos from the Chili Cook-Off show.

With that said, he likes to be free to interact with the crowd and get into some crazy hijinx.

Pat plays guitar because he would rather have him play guitar and Freese play drums then have "some other joker" play guitar instead. Don't ask me what he means.

As for why the band sometimes opts to have three guitars at once, I'm not really sure.

Only In Dreams does sound great with 3 guitars. I think Brian should switch to electric during the solo part, though. Despite what other's may say, Josh Freese is pretty damn good. I definitely enjoyed watching Surf Wax with him on the drums. There is a reason why he's one of the most demanded session drummers. He's going to be quite busy with the A Perfect Circle tour this summer so I wonder what's going to happen.

I know Pat doesn't really like playing drums.  He says it hurts his back, which after 20+ years of playing drums, is understandable.

I do like the classic 4 piece, but honestly, the more the merrier.  Josh Freese is awesome.

He's said the opposite many times over the past few years. Not sure where you're getting that from.

Does anyone know why Pat has started using a electirc guitar on "I Want You To" instead of a acoustic, i think it sounded better with a acoustic.
Because Rivers isn't playing guitar on it anymore.
An interview I read with him from the last year.  I can't remember what the publication was.  If I find it, I'll post it.
