Permalink Reply by Sdawg on November 12, 2012 at 3:01pm You should check out the 8-bit weezer tribute album if you haven't. It's pretty great.

Permalink Reply by G Foo Chombey on November 12, 2012 at 7:59pm Honestly nothing does. Video game music (at least 8-bit) tends to have complex layers and crazy methods to mask the limitations. Weezer is pretty standard formula.

Permalink Reply by G Foo Chombey on November 13, 2012 at 7:34pm My point stands. Most video game music up until disc gaming had a complexity behind it. It used more than 4 chords and wasn't afraid to use a chromatic note. Weezer is the opposite: Mostly using 4 chords per song and rarely breaking the pop music formula. Not to mention they hardly use any electronic sounds.

Yeah, I'm referring more heavily to 16-bit music where the game music began branching out more but still had clear limitations, that way coherent composition was still a key factor.
