I just wanted to see if anyone else got this "Bad Attitude" vibe from Rivers on pinkerton night of Roseland VIP ... when we got to hang with the band for 15min
So I walk up to each member: Brian, Scott, and Pat, and they all seem extremely nice and more than happy to sign stuff and take pictures with anyone....I snag photos with them and then I walk over to rivers and I hear him saying he wasn't signing anything, cause he wanted to talk to everyone. Then I go up to him and I ask him very nicely if he wouldn't mind taking a picture with me, and he says yeah, but immediately turns away and talks to a girl ....So I was respectful and waited for him to finish up his chat with her, and at point I thought he was done talking with her, and I ask again nicely about taking a picture with me. he then got very annoyed at me, saying that he doesn't want to waste time taking pictures, he just wants to talk to people,(in the time he told me he didn't want to waste time with a picture we could have taking a picture!!!!) and then he says to me that he was still talking to that girl ... and of course I did not realize this, and I even said I'm really sorry, it was very rude of me to interrupt..... after awhile I somehow get into a conversation with rivers and it seemed somewhat genuine, and i tell him that his music helped me out through some hard times, and he looked at me like I was crazy, and he changed the subject and asked me if I was a musician... Don't get me wrong I respect Rivers a lot, but he honestly made me feel like s***, like I was asking the world of him, and I know we got a picture with the full band afterwords, but I really wanted a picture with just me and rivers, and that really would have meant a lot to me...(not to mention I noticed on facebook that he took personal pictures with people at the other VIP shows!!!)....I don't mean to complain cause I really had a great time at the Blue and Pinkerton show except for that part... but I paid $600 for vip, another $400 for blue night, and not to mention all the money I've put into Weezer's music, and 7 other live shows I've been to over the years, and he wouldn't take 5 secs to take a photo with me....all I wanted was a picture with just me and him ,,and not only did he shut me down, but he made me feel like I was an a******...I didn't want anything signed, but the fact that he wouldn't sign anything either is ridiculous too

Permalink Reply by tinyknits on December 20, 2010 at 8:40am I wouldn't take it personally. I met him in Boston the night of the Blue Album and every fan that went up to him wanted a picture and/or signature. He didn't sign anything that night but he did take some photos. I believe he was told not to sign anything or at least that's what he was telling everyone. I didn't ask him for a photo nor a signature but I did have a short and weird (which was my fault) conversation with him. He was pleasant and took the time to try and talk to everyone. Just be happy you got to talk to him. There are a lot of VIPs at each show so not everyone gets to talk to the band but paid that same price for the ticket.
Permalink Reply by Saloon Katoo on December 20, 2010 at 9:40am Michael, consider yourself lucky.
I was at the Roseland VIP same as you (Group A) and the only person I actually met was Scott. I didn't talk to anyone else. We were in group A and got MAYBE 5 minutes with the band. 75 people, 5 minutes, you do the math. You couldn't even get close to Rivers much less talk to him.
It was a ripoff. You met Rivers. I didn't. We paid the same price. Consider yourself very lucky.
Brian was nowhere to be seen.
The band came downstairs and chatted with two disabled people for about 5 minutes before we got to "meet" them. Meanwhile signs were put up so we couldn't see the band. Hello! We paid the same price for this meet and greet as they did!
Honestly, I think it disgusting that muti millionaire's with boatloads of money are charging loyal fans $300 a pop for 5 seconds of their time. Yeah, there is some overhead. But I bet they made like $20K alone in meet and greets. It's disgusting.
I'll know better next time.
Permalink Reply by Birdmagon on December 20, 2010 at 10:41am Rivers has a right to have a "bad attitude". Maybe he was having a bad night or just tired of hundreds of people wanting something from him. Consider yourself lucky. Yes you paid extra for VIP passes. You got what you paid for. You met them and had a group photo with them. Rivers doesn't owe you anything! Get over it and quit your b*******!
Permalink Reply by hintofcoolness on December 20, 2010 at 11:48am I agree in part but he could have spent 30 seconds to snap a pic with a fan; it wouldn't have meant much to Rivers, but would have meant the world to this Michael guy. I think it stinks. I don't use my lack of people skills as a crutch ;)

Permalink Reply by Gohi on December 20, 2010 at 12:42pm How is him asking if you were a musician changing the topic? Sounds like he was interested in what you had to say. I would be pleased if he asked me about that. I'd value a conversation with Rivers far more than a picture.
Permalink Reply by Birdmagon on December 20, 2010 at 1:01pm Yes, he could have spent 30 seconds to take a pic with people, but he wasn't taking pix with anyone.
He wasn't specifically saying no to this guy. Rivers said no and that should be respected. I would have been disappointed if that happened to me, but it was nothing personal. Anyway, what's done is done.
P.S. You have mad people skills :)

Permalink Reply by Bill on December 20, 2010 at 1:24pm i can sympathize with how you feel dissed.
however, in the long run, i think having an actual conversation with him would be a better memory than a picture. having said that, no matter how much you respect his art, we all gotta remember the guys in weezer are dudes just like anyone else, and absolutely are NO MORE special that you are, or i am. that is a fact.
Permalink Reply by G Foo Chombey on December 20, 2010 at 1:40pm Maybe he really doesn't care. If he has social issues and already made it, why should he struggle to please people he may never meet?
Permalink Reply by Sovereign Andy on December 20, 2010 at 1:51pm Yep.
If he's anti social and a quirky artist type with bad, not mad, people skills, then maybe he shouldn't take the money for VIP stuff or agree to do it?
If he agrees to it, then he should man up and do it. We all (almost all) get up and go to work every day doing something we'd rather not do. Some of us (like me) work 2 jobs to make ends meet while not doing the things we love full time.
It's his job to do meet and greets. I know it's hard to have a bunch of people gushing over art or whatever, but it ain't like it lasts for 8 hours.
I pull 9 hour shifts in a loud and dirty factory now and come home to write articles for sale, then go out and busk for cash on the sidewalk when it's not too cold out.
That's my work life right now.
I freakin' wish I could stand around behind a stage while people paid hundreds of hard earned dollars for the chance to tell me that I'd changed their lives for the better or my art helped them through a hard time.
It's not the end of the world, but the guy should have gotten a little better treatment.
On the other hand, we all have off days. There are days that make me want to break my guitar over someone's head. I'd hate to have to go out and play on those days.
Never know what Rivers is going through either. He could have gotten some more bad Kafir or maybe some bad news that day.
Chalk it up to a life lesson.

Permalink Reply by Radioactive on December 20, 2010 at 2:06pm Yeah, Rivers probably couldn't take pictures. I know he definitely couldn't sign anything, but when he's talking to someone he's talking to someone. Not that you meant to interrupt.
And he seemed like he was trying to generate conversation. He prolly wasn't "looking at you like you were crazy".... I'm sure you misread him.
Permalink Reply by Corey Gregory on December 20, 2010 at 2:32pm I'm pretty positive the "wierd look" thing never happened. No one would be that much of an a******. I mean Pinkerton has helped me through some hard times too. Rivers probably doesn't have the greatest social skills, but thats fine (I don't either), not everyone is perfect.
I guess showing some respect for the people who made a fantasy a reality would be good, but s*** happens.
Permalink Reply by Daniel Vernon James on December 20, 2010 at 2:46pm I wouldn't want to talk to weezer fans all that much if I were rivers either. Think about how many crappy things have been directed at him and his band since 2001 on various boards. For all rivers knows he could be in a cesspool of two-faces and backstabbers, thinking "my god, I'm doing so much for these freakin' Judas creeps."
Not accusing you, or weezer fans as a whole, because I'm a typical fan as well. Cool that you met him!
