ODE TO CUOMO

By Christian Nelson

(aka Broken By Clouds)

Everybody's a critic

Everybody blah-blogs

Everybody hates something

That they are not

Everybody wants true love

Till their interest falls off

Everybody wants true love

But then they go and

Master the art of sabotage

Ohhh-woh-oh-oh-oh

One day they're number one fans

Ohhh

Then the next thing you know

They put a hit on your band

Right now your sound maybe
Just sounds like sound to them

Right now your sound maybe
Just sounds like sound to them

Right now your sound's only sound

But you know that they'd miss you

If you wasn't around

Everybody loves Blue

Everybody loves Pink

I think we all can agree

That "Where's my sex?" really stinks

But then they go and forget about

Put me back together

Maybe they just never heard that
Love is the answer

Ohhh-woh-oh-oh-oh

One day they're number one fans

Ohhh

Then the next thing you know

They put a hit on your band

Right now your sound maybe

Just sounds like sound to them

Right now your sound maybe

Just sounds like sound to them

Right now your sound's only sound

But you know that they'd miss you

If you wasn't around

Time flies

But it cannot destroy my sweater

Ooh-ooh-ee-ooh

Keep fishin'
For something better

Oh-oh-and you're Mary Tyler Moore

[Come on and kick me!!]

Ohhh-woh-oh-oh-oh

One day they're number one fans

Ohhh

Then the next thing you know

They put a hit on your band

0hhh-woh-oh-oh-oh

ONE DAY THEY'RE NUMBER ONE FANS!

Ohhh

Then the next thing you know

They put a hit on your band

Right now your sound maybe

Just sound like sound to them

Right now your sound maybe

Just sounds like sound to them

Right now your sound's only sound

But you know that they'd miss you...

If you wasn't around

Thanks, Marie!

It didn't take terribly long (no surprise to blueperton ; ). Once I had the chorus/theme it was pretty clear sailing...perhaps I should rework the verses a bit or add a third one. All in all, maybe an hour or so.

Haha good job! How long did this take you to do?

No, this is horrible:

Yo, my name is Christian

And I'm here to say

I listen to Weezer nearly every single day

Roses is red

Like their album is blue

Come to think of it

One of their albums is red, too

...anything particularly Maladroit in my execution of "Ode"?

AWESOME :]

you should add some maladroit references.  They don't have to be words, it could just be a guitar lick.

and what's with all the love for Where's My Sex?  I did not see that coming.

Glad my adjectives are are appreciated

I like Where's my sex...

I could use some musical inspiration. I tried recording this once, but couldn't quite get it right (vocals were a large part of the problem; mine are more in line with Death Cab For Cutie).

If anyone wants to take a stab at recording this, that would be awesome. It would be interesting to hear what people come up with.

i really like that challenge, but i really don't like this poem thing.  but maybe i'll do it anyway if someone doesn't beat me to it.  sorry it's just a big cheesefest for me.

Essentially, yeah, it's pure cheese, though I like to think some deeper meaning could be extracted from individual lines. In a context broader than the titular subject, it's about taking things for granted:

"Everybody wants true love

But then they go and

Master the art of sabotage"

"Right now your sound maybe
Just sounds like sound to them, etc"

I also think the turn of phrase in the chorus is pretty cool (perhaps nifty even).

(Of course, I would say that ; )

But, yeah, obviously recording this isn't even a top priority for me. Besides, there's probably only one person who could turn this cheddar into gold. Or perhaps a decent bonus track.

Thanks to everyone for reading and commenting! I'm curious if anyone noticed the specific inspiration for these lyrics? (It's in the chorus.)
