Permalink Reply by Jamekae on August 6, 2011 at 11:39pm I'm sad This is Such a Pity got eliminated, that's my favourite of the era. I'm going for The Other Way to win.
Perfect Situation's an awesome song, but there are a few thing hampering it from being the best of the era:
-The godawful mixing, mastering and production. It's compressed to fuckery and it seriously hurts to listen to the clipping intro when I'm wearing a decent pair of headphones.
-The poppy chord progression holds it back. The other day Rivers played a variant of the song on ustream where he modulated the key to make it sound sadder and it sounded AMAZING, I can't help but feel as if Rivers chose the G, D, Am, D progression because of its poppy nature.
- Like the above point, the 'definitive' remix which changes the chorus melody and overlaps "perfect situation" atop the outro seemed to be done to shift a few more units Make Believe rather than to better fit the song's artistic execution.
- "What's the deal with my brain, why am I so obviously insane." is a laughable incipit.
