I've had to do that once. I was at open mic, and my guitar pick ups would not work, so I borrowed a friend's who was in standard tuning. I had to adjust my playing so I was playing everything half step down, on a standard tuned guitar. Sometimes, you just need that low E. The high, bar chord, E, just doesn't sound right all the time.

I've only played Replaced once and it was a disaster since we played it a half-step up from the album version.
