'Burndt Jamb' Appreciation Thread
Maladroit haters need not apply.
This song has what are probably the funkiest guitar parts in any weezer song, and also sports one of the better basslines in their catalogue. imo.
Sure, the lyrics kind of make no sense, but really. Who cares.

my thoughts exactly.
When Scott hits the bass on this, live, its sounds like what I imagine that particle accelerator in Switzerland to sound like.
I love how it goes from Reggae/Ska upbeats, to monster crunch rock riff

One of the few Maladroit tracks where I really enjoy the lyrics and my favorite off the entire album. I used to think the lyrics were throw away, esp considering the demo version had some really nice imagery inspiring words. But there's a certain charm to the fragmented nature of the album lyrics. And I believe I read somewhere that they were inspired by a goth chick Rivdawg was dating. If I have one complaint it's that the album version basically lost the "jam" nature of the song present in the demos. But anyway the bgvs absolutely get me every time and i just love the guitar (even if the main riff is a rip off). From the first time I heard the instrumental demo to the final version I've always been a big fan and was so glad to see it make the final cut. A shame they never play it live anymore, I never got to see it performed.

Maladroit truly flucking sucks, though I'm still applying here because I consider this track to be the album's one redeeming moment, I loooooove Burndt Jamb. Everyone's just brimming with energy on their respective instruments and you've got Rivers pushing some interesting sonic/structural boundaries which is uncharacteristic of the homogenized, metalhead output of the era (and nailing it imo). Even the detached, nonsensical lyrics really work to the song's benefit here as they fit the carefree attitude of Burdnt Jamb so well. Definitely a highlight in Weezer's Post-Pinkerton catalogue for me.

George Benson’s “Breezin”
Not a complete rip off mind you, just similar in the same vein that I Do is to that one Billy Joel song, although that can be argued as more rip-offy.
