Autopilot... what does this song mean?

Can someone explain to me or tell me what they think the lyrics in Autopilot mean? I have an idea but I am not sure if I am correct, and that ending intrigues me...

Anyone?

If there was a previous post regarding this please point me in the right direction as I could not find it...

i think this is the code you were asking about:

10 INPUT "What is your name?"
20 PRINT "Hello"
30 REM
40 INPUT "How much cash do you want?"
50 FOR I = 1 TO N
60 PRINT S$ & REM
70 INPUT GOTO THE END
80 IF A$ = B, my friend,
THEN PRINT THEM TO ME

dunno how accurate that is, i found a few different versions online and this made the most sense programming-wise. it's written in BASIC, but not very well (REM is supposed to be followed by comments from the programmer, for instance).

Yes! I didn't have a chance to look again but I think you are close. I think the last line was slightly different and there was something with error or fail ( after print) but pretty sure this is it. Now what does it mean....

Edit: I googled what you got and saw this one which looks more accurate, from what I remember

30 REM

60 PRINT S$ & REM
70 INPUT "go to the end"
80 IF (A$ = "be my friend") THEN PRINT "Bad Command"

Yeah, the one you found natkat, is correct. There are a few very minor mistakes BASIC-wise, but it's an incredibly creative song, esp. the bridge and it doesn't in any way indicate Rivers "giving up trying". In fact it's one of his more brilliant pieces of work.

This is not one of my favorite songs musically but I appreciate the creativity/artistry behind it and I relate to the message... being intentional or one that I made up in my mind...
