I'm an avid fan of both reading and writing poetry. Below is a piece that I "finished" recently. It's from a series I've been working on entitled "Elora Nights".
You delivered dead roses to my freshly painted front door, your scent still lingered on their frail corpses
You returned to your snow globe with its flower baskets and gallows swinging in the swift, west wind
The black X already marked in my name, yet I walked upon your tightrope, hoping not to fall into the ashes of the autumn leaves below.
Sparrows seeded tulips by your basement window, and my pink dress melted the dusty February snow
You said your heart had finally bloomed.
Yet slowly a petal here and there, would fall, and your eyes turned from cerulean to dusk
The X bleeding through my dress, stained and dirty.
I washed and washed my mind, bleaching, scrubbing until my nails were painted crimson with blood
You lured me to your mausoleum and we took our places side by side
My body, an empty vessel clinging to dead organs that you despised
You burned all the tears I cried; shamefacedly I limped away into the forest of prudence
And I emptied my last beat of my mind onto your tulips, and the last petal fell
I took off my dress and laid it on the ground.
Pink and black, my ears leaked your words
I loved you. You hurt me.

Just to be couth
He added vermouth
Then slipped his girlfriend a martini

Slowly across the desert sand
Trekked a lonely caravan
Men on camels, two by two
Destination Timbuktu

Met three whores in a pop up tent
They was three, and we was two
So I bucked one, and Timbuktu.

Millions and trillions of stars
Earth, the moon and mars
Is the amount of pain I endure
In my heart I knew, yet my mind so sure
I reach far for you yet I feel your fingers slip away
A dense morning fog in an early troubling day
My mind is in a dense, my thoughts in a haze
My emotions are wrecked, my brain in a daze
In this fog I search for you, but you're already gone
Tripping, falling, crying in the dim light of this early dawn
Face in the dew, I lay so still
I rub my hand across the soil, so wet, so eerily chill
The river is flowing like the love in in my soul
Slipping away to another land to settle in the dirt so low
The rays coming down shine light on something not yet seen
From the clouds to the earth, shimmering, loving and sheen
What is it shining on? What is over there?
In my vision, it is trees and dust floating in the air
Running and running, it's too far out of reach
The paintings of God, the sermon will preach
I stand alone in a field full of false hope
I fall to my knees unsure I will ever cope
Two perfect figures, lost in the sea
What is going on, what is wrong with me?
Two shadows in the distance, constant reminder of the past
Amazing how the endless rain wont actually last
A drought in a world gone so wrong
Gazing at the shadows, as they come along
Rays of sunlight will surround the dim
Warming them up, outlining their brim.
The light shining on something far in the distance
Shimmers of hope in between who wont give a chance
The light shines so far away, the river flows strong
The shimmers along the way, false to long
A memory flashes of two seagulls at the bay
A stage to be walked on, ready to play
Two clouds floating happily in the sky
Turn dark within a blink of an eye
A bright bold of lightning and a huge thunder clap
A repeat of weather happened after that
Seeking for protection, coming across a creek
A bridge over the water, a safe spot under I will seek
Thunder echoing in the distance, a constant reminder
Setting in my mind, they say to realign her
There is no escaping the storm, it wants to be told
The super cells waring me down, this is getting old
Soft rain drops on my back soak into my shirt
No feeling to be felt, no embrace to heal the hurt
Izpostiti milestiba (devastated love), story of my life
Ray of sun in the distance, heal my heart of strife

I'm trying to do this based on memory, something I wrote in high school:
Oh burning pork flesh
you smell so sweet
Oh burning pork flesh
your taste can't be beat
Oh burning pork flesh
I paid by the pound
Oh burning pork flesh
the spit spins you 'round
I put an apple in your mouth
so that you won't squeal
and in an hour
you'll be my meal
Oh burning pork flesh
your revenge is so sweet
Oh burning pork flesh
when my heart stops to beat
*though I feel it's neccesary at this time to point out that I am not a vegetarian*
are you doing this to get ideas (or just copying poems) for song writing? because if you are, thats wrong, yet genius, too
