A less hectic touring schedule also frees up Weezer, who have released three new albums in the last three years, for more frequent recording sessions. Wilson says the band is "in talks of new recording sessions." "There's no date set, but it's definitely on the schedule."

Weezer have begun work on a new studio album. Cuomo explained, "I was talking to the producer and he was saying, 'These songs sound totally different from Hurley. That was kind of dark and the new songs sound like you're 16, riding your bicycle to get a Slurpee.'"

Nicholas, right now the group is taking it very slowly. Cuomo is working on new songs and listening to old demos. He has spoken on the fact that he wants their next project to be more than just a typical rock album but he's also trying to be very cautious and take his time. I wouldn't expect any news of an album until later in 2012. The waiting sucks but whatcha gonna do?

do you know how many articles there are from Weezer past that say there's a new album coming?
For example, here's an article from Spin, August 9, 2002:

That was when they did the Office demo's, mainly acoustic stuff, but none of it ever made it to an album.

I wouldn't expect to see another Weezer album for quite some time, probably late 2012 at the earliest since they haven't even begun to record anything yet. I don't even know if they have a set plan for what the next album is going to be exactly (in sound/concept). I think taking their time is a good idea though, personally.
