WHAT A DAY!!!

Wow. After a LONG, LONG drive from Boise, Idaho, it was totally worth it! HOT! but fun. So glad I could be there. THANKS WEEZER! See you again in SLC

That's a wrap!

I'm really glad I finally got to be a part of a =w= video! I'm still starstruck from seeing the guys today. It was cool being a part of this experience, & for those of you who couldn't be there, here's a link to some pictures (& 1 very very short video) I took: http://picasaweb.google.com/kimberly.tenggardjaja/WTroublemakerVideoShoot I was sad that the band didn't stick around for the custard pie fight. (Can you imagine people throwing pies at Rivers?) But it was still fun ... & crazy! Can't wait to see how the video turns out!

Best. Day. Ever.

Just got home form the shoot, it was an awesome day. Weezer fans have to be the nicest, coolest group of people ever. Got to be in a pie fight, that was hysterical and messy and sticky, so fun. Way too much to say, way too tired to say it all yet!! Thanks WEEZER!

Once in a lifetime!!

This was the most fun I've had in a long time!! Great job getting all that video Karl. I too can't wait to see how the video turns out. I loved the hootenanny part of it, and of course, playing all those weezer songs during our breaks in between breaking records. I was kind of bummed that Rivers didn't say anything to the hundreds of us who love his music for coming out. But it's cool, he's a "star" now — whatcha gonna do. Overall a great time, with great people, and I was honored to be a part of a =w= video.

TODAY WAS AWESOME

Man...who would've thought that I would have fun with complete strangers at a Weezer video shoot? I DID! Man, from the Hootenany to the random Weezer covers to Custard pie fights, there was nothing I didn't enjoy about this day. I took pictures with Brian, Scott, Pat, and some girl who threw a pie in my face, but unfortunately Rivers avoided pictures. I understand and it didn't ruin anything about my day because I spent the day with the greatest band that ever lived! You guys should let me in on that video shoot, too :)

Hootananny 3 for me

this was an awesome day from the pie fight to air guitar it was great... Once again the horn section i was the male sax player and of coarse props to Weezer 2 in the holding area doing all the covers we could play haha thanks guys for another great time =w=

Proud to be a Weezer fan!!!

Participating in the Troublemaker video shoot was intense fun! I love Weezer so much more for being so kind and appreciative to their fans. The entire day was full of fun and little surprises, from wild record breaking events, to raffles, to all out Weezer style hootenanny jamming. Pat, Scott and Brian were awesome, they didn't mind signing autographs or posing for pictures throughout the day even though the shooting schedule was a bit hectic. Rivers is a character, he carries on a certain mystique, doesn't speak much but somehow it works for him, he's an adorable genius of a man! I love the Red album, it's arguably the most daring and creative project I've heard from Weezer. True Weezer fans can appreciate the new level of eclectic artistic quality oozing out of this album. I can't wait to see the edited version of the new Troublemaker video. I have a good feeling that it's going to be great, I'm so excited, I'm telling everyone I know! Oh and props to the other fans who participated today! I dug all of the positive energy, random sing-alongs and conversation, good times!!! =) peace and love.

If you guys wanna hit me up on myspace my addy is myspace.com/sickgirl714 I had a great time and look forward to seeing the video! WOW still can't beleive it! PS DODGEBALL - LEFT SIDE ROCKS!

What an awesome experience!

Thanks to everybody that made this possible! It was great being around so many nice and happy people. Karl, you're awesome. And this blows every =w= concert I've ever been to out of the water. They were all great, don't get me wrong, but being 10 feet from the band just changed my whole perspective as a fan of 13 years. Now I can say I jammed with Weezer!

So much fun!

Wow- that was such a blast! I got to throw pie at my cousin (and total strangers!) and skate around in the custard... The air guitar match was super cool! Thanks to Brian and Scott for the pictures and the director for being so nice and friendly to everyone. All the other fans there were polite and fun, it was just such a great atmosphere! Out of everyone, though- Karl has to be the absolute nicest and coolest guy on the planet. Thanks again, guys!

Musings on the nature of fandom

I attended the "Troublemaker" video shoot and it was as satisfying as a fan/geek experience can get, which is to say, it left me with a somewhat unsatisfied feeling. The band members were courteous, charming, and clearly appreciated their fans, and the crew was the same. They band members could have chosen to spend the day in their trailer, but instead opted to come out a few times and sign autographs and pose for pictures. Rivers did not, but I can't say that I blame him. How interesting could the same toadying, sycophantic conversations he must have with fans be after more than ten years? So why would we come out and spend 8 or 12 hours in a blacktop parking lot on a summer day, for no promised pay -- just a few slices of pizza and some reconstituted lemonade? It's the same reason why we jump, clap, scream and cheer to the spectacle of Weezer lip-syncing the to recorded versions of a single song, over and over again, with just as much enthusiasm as we would at a authentic Weezer concert. Because we are fans, and we adore this band. It's not enough for us to listen to their albums and attend their concerts. We somehow want to feel close to the band, like we can connect with them as they have connected with us. That's the unsatisfying part: we can't. Fandom is by definition a one-way street. I attended the Weezer Hootenanny and was selected to ask a question in the Q&A. My excitement about this opportunity was quashed when I was handed a slip of paper containing a pre-scripted question. Again, I felt denied an opportunity to connect with the band members that was in any way genuine -- I was being asked to follow someone else's script, fer chrissakes. So I threw a monkey wrench into the works; I exchanged the word "meditation" for the word "psychoactive drugs." I was rewarded for this with an unguarded moment with the band -- not when they opened their mouths to answer but that second before, when I got to see a brief expression of shock on their faces. That was a pleasure. When Brian came out to sign autographs and pose for pictures, I of course stood in the line, because Brian's my favorite Weezer. But I didn't pose for a picture with him. I've posed for a picture with a celebrity once in the past, and I found it unsatisfying. The photograph I took home didn't really tell much of a story, other than the one that goes, "I encountered Eric Idle and hand a camera with me." Or rather, it tells a story I wish was true, but isn't. I have no relationship with Eric Idle, and the only thing that would prompt him to put his arm around me and smile was my request and the presence of a camera. Every time I look at that picture, I see a false tableau. Yet, amazingly, Brian said to me, "I remember you from the Q&A." "You remember me?" I said. "Of course I do," he said, and I immediately felt foolish, like I'd made it seem like he was some sort of idiot who couldn't remember something that had just happened a few weeks ago. But again, we have the one-way nature of fandom coming into play. Why would I expect to have any measurable impact on Brian Bell of Weezer when my proper role is to be an applauding face in the crowd? Yet he remembered me, and I was thrilled for a moment, and then the moment was gone, replaced by the moment in which I parsed every word of our brief exchange and wished I'd said or done everything differently. I'm 39 years old, which means that I was many years the senior of just about every other fan at the shoot. Aren't I too old to be geeking out over a rock band, shaking my fists near my heart, squeaking, "Brian Bell talked to me! Squeeeee!" I should have better things to do than standing around wondering, "Am I going to be in the shot?" with 200 people who are standing around wondering the exact same thing. But damn it all, I had fun. And maybe I will be in the shot, and then I'll be able to watch the video on YouTube and say, "Look, there I am. I was there." But it's not as if I, say, sat down and had lunch with Weezer. Basically, all I managed to do was stand around in the same parking lot as them. It was fun, it was interesting, but of course, it left me wanting more. It seems to me that the meaning of fandom is to hold on to a perpetually unfulfilled wish to have an impact on the artists who have had an impact on you, to try to level the uneven playing field, to try to move both ways on a one-way street.

Basically Amazing.

I drove from Las Vegas, Nevada in the middle of the night with no sleep for this experience, and it was so unforgettable! I can't wait to see the end result and hope Karl can post a ton of additional video/photos! WE ARE RECORD BREAKER TROUBLEMAKERS! =w= forever

Good times.

I had so much fun with the band, crew and all the fans. I drove from Fresno, CA without any sleep but it was well worth the sacrifice. Dodgeball was fun, singing Weezer songs with the fans was amusing and I thoroughly enjoyed rockin out with Weezer all day. What more could a Weezer fan ask for? I'm very appreciative of having the opportunity to participate and spending time with everyone there. I'm so stoked for the video to come out and that is an understament, my friends! Thanks again for the good times!
